At Leawood Pediatrics, scheduling appointments is designed to be simple and family-friendly. Whether your child needs a routine checkup, a same-day sick visit, or follow-up care, our team is here to make the process easy and convenient. We encourage families to plan well visits in advance and to call us as soon as possible when urgent needs arise, so we can provide timely care for your child.

Scheduling Appointments

Our physicians’ schedules are now open through December 2026. Because spots fill quickly, we encourage families to schedule well visits as early as possible and ideally at least six months in advance. To book your child’s next appointment call us at 913-825-3627 (option 6) or text us.

Sick Care

We know how stressful it can be when your child isn’t feeling well. At Leawood Pediatrics, we keep time available each day for same-day sick visits so your child can be seen quickly when urgent needs arise.

Same-Day & Next-Day Availability:

Call or text us as early as possible; phones turn on at 7:30am. Same-day or next-day sick appointments can also be scheduled on the Patient Portal.

Common Concerns:

We see children for illnesses such as fever, coughs, earaches, sore throats, rashes, minor injuries, and other urgent concerns.

After-Hours Support:

If your child becomes ill outside of office hours, you can reach our on-call triage service through Children’s Mercy for guidance.

Our goal is to provide timely, compassionate care when your child needs it most while helping them feel better and giving you peace of mind.

Well Care

Regular checkups are an important part of keeping your child healthy and on track with growth and development. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends frequent well visits during the first three years of life at 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 24, and 30 months. Beginning at age 3, children should have a yearly well visit.

You can find helpful resources about well visits and child development from the AAP website. We also encourage you to confirm well visit coverage with your insurance provider before scheduling.

Because appointments fill up quickly, we suggest calling up to six months in advance so you can secure the date and time that works best for your family.

Flu Shots

Flu vaccines are an important part of protecting your child’s health. The AAP recommends that all children 6 months and older receive a flu vaccine each year.

For the current season, flu shots are offered by appointment only. Vaccines may be given during a scheduled well visit or at one of our in-office flu clinics. Siblings can also be added to existing well visits if scheduled in advance.

Important Information

  • The Influenza Vaccine Information Sheet must be reviewed before your appointment.

  • Vaccines are available for patients over 6 months old who are current on well visits and have been seen in our office within the past 15 months.
  • Updated insurance information must be on file before the visit.
  • Pre-visit registration is required and will be sent by text or email. Each child must be registered separately.
  • Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
  • If a child is unable to cooperate during the visit, we may reschedule the flu vaccine for another time.

Vaccine Information

Vaccines are a vital part of keeping children healthy, and we follow evidence-based guidelines to ensure your child is protected. Our physicians take the time to explain recommended vaccines, answer your questions, and provide clarity so you can make informed decisions for your family.

Vaccine Safety

The health and safety of your child is always our top priority. Vaccines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics have been thoroughly studied and proven safe. We’re here to discuss any concerns and provide trusted, up-to-date information. Click here for more info and answers to frequently asked questions.

Resources

We provide educational materials and online links from reliable sources, including the AAP, so you can review vaccine schedule and recommendations at your own pace.

Policy

We require all patients to receive all required vaccines according to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) -recommended schedule. This policy reflects our strong belief, as board-certified physicians, that vaccines are essential for the health and safety of your child, other patients in our care, and the broader community. We are happy to answer your questions and talk with you about any concerns you may have. However, families who choose not to vaccinate will need to transfer care to another practice that aligns with their preferences.

School & Sports Physicals

We recommend annual physicals for every child to support their overall health and development. During these visits, school, sports, or camp forms can be completed at no extra cost if brought to the appointment. Please fill out the patient portion of any required forms ahead of time. A $10 fee applies for forms that need to be completed outside of a scheduled visit.

In Kansas, sports physicals must be completed on or after April 1st to be valid for the upcoming school year. Because of this requirement, the summer months are especially busy. To secure your preferred time, we encourage you to schedule school and sports physicals as early as possible with your child’s pediatrician.

Copies of the Kansas and Missouri pre-participation physical forms, as well as the Boy Scout annual health form, are available below. Please complete the patient portion of the appropriate form before your appointment.

Children’s Mental Health

Your child’s mental health is just as important as their physical health, and our team is here to support your them every step of the way. If your child is feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or not themselves, we can provide confidential screening tools for anxiety and depression that are simple to use and can help you better understand their well-being. Taking care of your child’s mental health is an important step in living well, and they deserve to feel supported, understood, and empowered to thrive. These resources can also guide you in taking the next steps toward getting the right care when it is needed most.

Teen Health

Our goal is to provide support for every stage of your child’s transition into adulthood. This section includes resources on reproductive and menstrual health, giving teens the knowledge and tools they need to feel informed and confident. For patients 18 and older, you’ll also find important forms such as delegation forms and medical records requests. Whether families are seeking health information or essential paperwork, this section is here to guide and support them.

Our trusted partner KidsHealth offers reliable information on a wide range of sexual health topics created specifically for teens. From puberty and reproductive health to relationships and safe practices, these resources are meant to empower teens to make thoughtful decisions about their well-being. All content is inclusive, approachable, and designed to provide accurate information in a supportive environment.

Once you turn 18, you may choose to designate individuals who can access your healthcare information. The Adult Delegation Form allows Leawood Pediatrics to share important updates about your health with a parent, guardian, or another trusted person of your choice. Completing this form ensures that those you rely on can stay informed and help support your healthcare needs.

Video Visits

Telehealth

Telehealth visits may be used in place of an office visit for certain concerns. To use this service, you must be an established patient of Children’s Mercy Leawood Pediatrics and located in either Kansas or Missouri at the time of the appointment.

Telehealth visits are billed to your insurance in the same way as an office visit. Most insurance plans cover telemedicine, but please check with your provider to confirm coverage. Some self-insured plans may not include this benefit.

All standard copays and contracted fees apply. Payment will be charged to the card we have on file unless you notify us of updated information.

By industry standards, telehealth visits scheduled on federal holidays, weekends, or after 5 pm on weekdays will include an additional charge.

If you have new insurance or need to update your payment method, please email info@leawoodpediatrics.com before your appointment. Do not send card numbers or sensitive personal details by email for security reasons.

Basic Insurance FAQs

When your appointment is scheduled, confirm the phone number you would like us to use for communication. You must complete pre-visit registration, which will be sent by text or email, and pay any required copays before your visit begins.

Be ready with your phone 10–15 minutes before your scheduled appointment. You will first receive a message with a secure link to connect with a nurse who will collect pre-visit information and vitals. Once that step is complete, you will receive another secure text when the physician is ready to meet with you.

Please note: Physicians do their best to be on time, but delays may occur as they would with in-office appointments. The secure link will not be sent until your doctor is ready. Each link expires after 10 minutes. If you do not respond within that time, the visit will be considered a missed appointment, and a no-show fee will apply.

Common Questions

Yes. We take your privacy and security very seriously. Our telehealth visits are conducted through Updox, a platform that meets all HIPAA and HITECH standards. Updox uses advanced security and encryption measures to protect your information. No recordings are made of your visit. As with an in-office appointment, the details are documented in your child’s medical chart.

Our physicians are licensed in both Kansas and Missouri. Telehealth visits are available only if the patient is physically located in one of these two states at the time of the appointment.

Yes. In some cases, the physician may determine that an in-person appointment is necessary to provide the best care.

After Hours & Emergencies

If you have an urgent concern when our office is closed, call our main number at (913) 825-3627. Your call will be directed to the Children’s Mercy nurse triage line, where a nurse will provide initial guidance. Please note there is a $17 charge per child for this service.

Leawood Pediatrics partners with the Children’s Mercy nurse triage line to support families outside of regular hours. Routine questions, such as those about mild illness, appointments, or prescription refills, should be saved for daytime office hours. If you need consultation with our on call physician, it will be a telemed appointment and billed to your insurance accordingly.

For life-threatening emergencies, call 911 immediately or go to the nearest emergency department.

For ingestion or poisoning concerns, contact the Poison Control Center at (800) 222-1222.

We recommend the Children’s Mercy healthcare system for after-hours care needs.
